Solarpunk Transport Drones Guide

Automation

Direct answer

Transport Drones are for resource logistics, not animal capture. Official storefront copy still describes automation through transport drones gathering resources, so start with the automation use case: place the drone destination at your base, power it, then link the remote drill to that destination so mined ore can be moved back without constant Airship collection runs.

The current safest workflow is:

  1. build the mining outpost first: drill, enough power, and access to the ore vein
  2. place and name the Transport Drone destination where you want resources delivered
  3. interact with the drill and choose that destination from the available drone list
  4. do not move the drone base casually after linking, because current community reports say relinking may be required
  5. troubleshoot power and drill setup before assuming the drone is bugged
Official Airship clip used as travel context: drones become useful once remote islands and mining outposts make manual pickup inefficient.

Latest official context

Rechecked on July 15, 2026: official Steam, Xbox, Nintendo, and PlayStation descriptions still frame drones as part of automation and resource gathering. They do not provide exact build recipes or per-drone throughput, so this page keeps those details tied to current guide/community evidence rather than presenting them as official facts.

When to build Transport Drones

Build drones when the time cost of collection is higher than the setup cost. Good candidates are:

  • a Quartz/Silicon route you keep revisiting
  • later ore islands that require long Airship trips
  • mining outposts with drills that already have reliable power
  • resource loops that feed crafting, batteries, circuits, or airship progression

Do not rush drones before your power system is stable. A powerless drill or destination is still a broken logistics chain.

How to set up a drone route

  1. Pick the resource first. Silicon starts from Quartz, and later resources may require specific island access.
  2. Place the drill on the correct deposit. Confirm the drill is actually extracting the material you want.
  3. Power the drill. Weather and weak power planning can make a working route look broken.
  4. Place the drone destination at base. Name it clearly, such as Quartz, Silicon prep, or Remote ore.
  5. Link the drill to the destination. Current Steam community guidance says the drill selection should show the placed drone destination.
  6. Test with one production cycle. Confirm delivery before leaving the outpost alone for a long time.

Drone not working: checklist

SymptomLikely causeFix
No destination appears

Drone destination is missing, unpowered, or not recognized yet

Place it at base, power it, name it, then re-open the drill UI

Drill runs but nothing arrives

Wrong destination, broken link, or no output cycle completed

Relink at the drill and test one short cycle

It worked before, then stopped

Current community reports warn that moving the drone base can break the link

Return to the drill and select the destination again

Everything stops in bad weatherPower supply is too fragile

Add battery planning or stronger generation before blaming drones

What not to claim yet

Because drone behavior is patch-sensitive, this page avoids exact throughput claims, hidden range numbers, and every recipe quantity unless a current release source clearly verifies them. Use this page as a safe setup and troubleshooting route, then verify exact recipes in your current build.

FAQ

What do Transport Drones do in Solarpunk?

Current guide and community evidence says Transport Drones are used to move mined resources from remote drills back to a selected destination, reducing manual collection trips.

Are Transport Drones the same as Animal Transport?

No. Transport Drones are ore/logistics automation. Animal Transportation moves animals through a receiver workflow.

Why is my drone not moving ore?

Check power, destination placement, the drill link, and whether the drone base was moved after linking. A current Steam discussion warns that moving the base can break the link.
