Solarpunk Resources

Resources

Direct answer

Use this hub when the real problem is not general progression, but a specific material gate:

  • Wheat for research, Bread, and Animal Feed
  • Iron for Pickaxe mining, early research pressure, and the Dock/Airship route
  • Seeds for stabilizing crop replanting before rare harvests are spent
  • Copper for the first broader Airship expansion
  • Sand for Glass and early crafting bottlenecks
  • Algae for later farming, drone, power, and circuitboard-related production
  • Silicon for Tier 2 blueprint access
  • Cobalt for later Tradebot and blueprint progress
  • Sunflower for Tier 6 research and Better Animal Feed
  • Paprika for late winter-island crop/resource routing
Official Steam Airship clip. On this hub it represents the shift from starter-island gathering into travel-gated resource routes.

Key resource routes

Use these pages when a material, island route, or automation step is blocking progression:

The first blocker set

Early Solarpunk resource frustration is still dominated by two questions:

Those materials gate the first meaningful transition away from the starting island mindset. If the problem is travel range rather than the material itself, switch to the Airship Guide or Map and Islands.

The next blocker set after Wheat and Copper

Once players are past the first Airship expansion, the current release progression chain shifts toward these materials:

These resources tend to appear when your next problem is no longer basic survival, but blueprint tiers, Tradebot progress, stronger farming, or automated production.

Why Silicon matters more than it first looks

Silicon is the first resource in this next group that players usually underestimate.

The current current-release guide evidence points to three reasons:

  1. you get Silicon by processing Quartz
  2. reaching Quartz depends on the Level 2 Airship range
  3. your first Silicon immediately matters for Tier 2 blueprint access and the Animal Transport path

That makes Silicon less of a side material and more of a practical bridge between early travel and mid-game systems.

Why Cobalt and Sunflower matter together

Cobalt and Sunflower show up in different systems, but they land at a similar stage of the game:

  • Cobalt supports later Tradebot and blueprint progression
  • Sunflower opens Tier 6 research and supports Better Animal Feed

In other words, Cobalt pushes the technology side forward while Sunflower pushes the farm-and-animal side forward.

When the blocker is really transport, not gathering

Some “I need more Eggs” or “I need to move pigs/chickens” problems are not resource questions at all. They are transport questions.

Use:

This matters because Eggs, Better Animal Feed, and later Truffle progression all connect back to the animal logistics layer.

When to switch back to progression

If you are not sure whether your blocker is a material issue or a progression issue, switch to the Progression Guide before chasing another missing resource.

FAQ

Which resource blockers matter first?

Wheat and Copper still matter first, but Silicon becomes the next practical bottleneck because it opens Tier 2 blueprint access.

Which resource gates the next big Airship jump?

The current release progression chain ties Cobalt to later Tradebot progress and Sunflower to Tier 6 research and Better Animal Feed.

Why does this hub link to Animal Transport too?

Because some mid-game “resource” blockers are really transport blockers. Animals, Eggs, and later Truffle progress all depend on that system.
