Direct answer
Sheep and Pigs are the animal-system expansion after Chickens, not the first animal step. If your Chicken setup is still missing feed, water, shelter, or reliable Egg production, fix that first. Once the basics work, use Animal Transportation and proper shelters to bring later animals home and start working toward products like Sheep Milk and Truffles.
The safe route is:
- stabilize Wheat and Chicken care first
- unlock the animal research needed for transport and later shelters
- build the correct destination and care setup before moving an animal
- use Animal Transportation on the animal and select a built receiver
- solve hunger, thirst, and shelter before expecting products
Sheep vs Pigs at a glance
What to do before searching the map
Do not turn Sheep and Pigs into a blind island hunt. Check these gates first:
- have you already solved Wheat and basic Animal Feed pressure?
- do you understand Animal Transportation and receiver placement?
- do you have enough room for separate shelter layouts?
- can your base keep troughs supplied without draining your early resources?
- are you ready to reload or reposition if an animal gets stuck?
How Animal Transportation fits
Current community database evidence says Animal Transportation is used directly on an animal, then you select a built Animal Receiver as the destination. It also notes that animals can be lured with matching crops: Chickens with Wheat, Pigs with Carrots, and Sheep with Corn.
Treat that as a useful current-release lead, but still verify prompts in your build before spending rare materials. Animal prompts and pathing have been patch-sensitive during launch week.
Sheep setup checklist
- Confirm you are past the Chicken/Egg stage.
- Prepare a receiver and a clear home area.
- Build or unlock the correct Sheep shelter before expecting stable production.
- Keep food and water accessible.
- Watch for pathing: if the animal cannot reach care objects, products may stall.
Pig setup checklist
- Do not chase Truffles until the Pig care loop is ready.
- Prepare the Pig Shelter and enough enclosed space.
- Use transport only after the destination exists.
- Keep feed and water close to the shelter.
- If the Pig arrives but production does not start, troubleshoot shelter access before assuming the resource is bugged.
Products and patch sensitivity
If Sheep or Pigs get stuck
Use the same safe sequence as Chickens:
- save and reload once before rebuilding everything
- check whether the animal can physically reach shelter, food, and water
- avoid placing care objects too far apart
- remove path blockers and tight corners
- do not install unknown mods just to unstick an animal
